Raising a T2 Voice Against Complacency

Recent headlines regarding home blood glucose monitoring for Type 2 diabetics (aggregated at the UK's National Health service site, ) are causing a lot of concerns among the OC. To some degree, the T2 OC is the "choir" of aggressive self-management -- we are more likely than the "Average Joe With Sugar" to test regularly, to pay attention to diet and exercise, and to keep up with our medical care. To that degree, I admit to "preaching to the choir". Or maybe just ranting... As with any controver

Pressure Will Build From Wrong Way Trends- WSE Pro Fed Report
Wed, 23 Apr 2008 10:52:45 PDT
Interest rates were lower in today’s Open Market Operations as the Fed essentially stood pat. The flood of Treasury Cash Management Bill (CMB) paydowns this week has finally had an effect in the money market, suppressing both the overnight Fed Funds rate and the rates at today’s repo auction. Conversely, the yield at the Treasury’s 2 year note auction rose 48 basis points from the level of the last such auction in March. At the same time, signs are building of decreased indirect bidder interest

This morning’s New York Times has a great piece by technology writer Miguel Helft on the growth of the how-to video sector. A popular “smorgasbord” of instructional content, from the “satirical” to the “humorous” to the “esoteric,”as well as platforms to support it, is emerging, he points out, and online video seems like the perfect medium for it, given the enormous range of subjects people want to learn about. How else could you learn how to start a fire with a battery? It is with these pro
When Time and Money Are Fixed, Some Auto Service Locations Find Other Ways To Please You
Wed, 23 Apr 2008 11:00:14 PDT
If you get your car serviced, do you generally have a good time or bad? As it turns out, most people tend to consider the time and money they spend (and the quality of the work) at automotive service locations to be pretty consistent. That is to say: fixed and mostly forgettable. Sometimes this is more time/money/anguish than average, sometimes less, but overall somewhere in the fat part of the curve which averages out to be quite forgettable. It is therefore interesting, as a result, to find

Wal-Mart, the world’s largest retailer, said on Wednesday that it would ration the amount of rice each customer can purchase at its Sam's Club warehouse stores because of recent “supply and demand trends.” “We are limiting the sale of Jasmine, Basmati and Long Grain White Rices to four bags per member visit,” the company said in a statement. “This is effective immediately in all o

Charlene Li on Groundswell. In this session, both Li and Bernoff emphasize the importance of not jumping into social technologies and applications just because the competition does, but to have specific objectives and measurement. With defensible results, a social technology will be in a much better position to survive slimming budgets. The focus is on people, not technology with social technologies and applications. The first hundred. Mayor Dominic Sarno I've been meaning to post about the passing of the first 100 days of the Sarno mayoralty in Springfield. It is an arbitrary, though traditional ritual of American politics to judge a new office holder on the basis of what trends are indicated by the first one hundred days of their administration. By no means definitive nor always fair, it's still a worthwhile appraisal. Here is what I think are the most important things about Sarno's administration thu
