The Art of Buying Politicians and Controlling Society
Sun, 11 May 2008 15:54:08 PDT
"All politicians are for sale. Every penny invested in any campaign has a purpose to it and an expected return attached to it. Rich “fat cats” are NOT leaning towards Republican McCain, but rather towards Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Rupert Murdoch and News Corp are not part of some “right-wing” propaganda machine since they are supporting Hillary Clinton for President. And when it comes to “fat cat” elitist powerbrokers buying politicians, Barack Obama is hands down the clear favorite! Kee
Caetano Veloso

I talked to someone recently about Caetano Veloso, Brazilian music, Marisa Monte, and Spanish music (like Shakira, Juanes, and Julieta Venegas) so I thought I would post some Caetano Veloso songs from a CD of his that I have called Noites do Norte. I am sure there are better Veloso songs out there, but I don't know them all. If anyone wants to recommend a better song from his library, by all means go ahead in the comments section. Eu falou um poquinho em portugues. ;) Here are some from the Noi
Mariah Carey is a dumbass
Sun, 11 May 2008 15:55:30 PDT
You know how your not suppose to get a tattoo with your boyfriend/husband’s name on it? Well Mariah never heard of that cause she got Mrs. Cannon tatted on her neck. Totally rad! Carey even introduced Winfrey to the actor/rapper who was to marry her on April 30, but the talk show titan didn’t think anything of the magical moment - or of her guest’s new tattoo. She said: “She’d done the tattoo on her back that said `Mrs. Cannon,’ so they were already planning on doing it (getting marrie
NYT Weenie Roasts Smart ForTwo
Sun, 11 May 2008 15:55:41 PDT
You'd think The New York Times would love the smart fortwo. It's trendy, chic and politically correct in an entirely metrosexual kinda way. True to form, Eric Taub's review starts with a love-in: "the Smart Fortwo may be the cutest and most unusual-looking production vehicle to arrive in this country since BMW’s front-loading Isetta 300 of the 1950s." Yeah, those wacky old Bimmers! Who needs a life can forget them! And then Taub gets waylaid by the smart's herky-jerky, unacceptably quirky automa
It’s about faith, stupid…
Sun, 11 May 2008 15:57:16 PDT
I have spent multiple weeks being attacked by the enemy. These attacks have come by way of members of my church, members of my family, friends, strangers, children, adults, etc. Every time I feel that I have risen above it (read: laughed it off and tried to pretend like it doesn’t bother me) another attack would happen. I have spent the better part of two weeks angry, afraid, bothered, hurt, and every other emotion that you can think of but my motto has always been “fake it til ya make it” whi
Barack reaches out…. to me

Gee, they grow up awfully fast don’t they. I’m talking about candidates. I got a letter yesterday from the Obama campaign. Prepaid envelope, A letter from Obama, a support letter from Ted Kennedy, a form looking for an email address and a donation and time to volunteer. I must say I was impressed as this was unexpected. I haven’t signed up for any Obama lists. Haven’t attended any meetings, haven’t donated. Nope, nothing. Ultimately, I will but up to now I haven’t. Sounds like someone is lea

Blog Rounds: Mentor / Tormentor
Sun, 11 May 2008 16:02:56 PDT
There were teachers, and there were mentors. We all knew there was a difference. Whether it was your basic medical science lab professor or it was the department chairman, we had our favorites. On the other hand, there were those who loved to torture us. Why do they create greater impact? Deeper wounds, maybe? Or do they really? The theme is your favorite mentor and/or tormentor during medical school and training. They may be the same person, or not. You may have several favorites. Most importan

McCain Comes to Portland Tomorrow
Sun, 11 May 2008 16:03:46 PDT
John McCain will be campaigning in Portland tomorrow, and Jeff Mapes at the Oregonian examines the money behind McCain's pricey fundraising reception tomorrow: When Republican Sen. John McCain is in Portland campaigning Monday, he'll hold quite a complex fundraiser at the Sheraton Hotel out at the airport. If you're willing to fork over $1,000 you can go to a reception. But for $33,100 you can attend a "victory dinner" with the presumptive Republican nominee. How, you may wonder, can it cost s

My friend, BT, begun sending emails to a small group of us, who are addicted to the presidential nomination race, several weeks ago. Everyone now emails everyone with personal observations, news story links, and primary humor. I received this email from AT, another member of the group today: you know, I've changed my mind about Barack. I now no longer support him for president because I am very concerned that the people of West Virginia will be uncomfortable: Click to read the LA Times new
Michael Shellenberger and Ted Nordhaus: Gas Tax Controversy Is a Warning to Democrats
Sun, 11 May 2008 16:05:33 PDT
While the call by Hillary Clinton and John McCain to suspend the gasoline tax is unquestionably a crass pander to working class swing voters more concerned about rising energy prices than global warming, it is also a warning to Democrats that dealing with global warming by raising energy prices is not a sustainable political strategy. Next month the Senate will take up legislation -- "cap and trade" -- that would regulate greenhouse gas emissions and increase the price of electricity from foss
